There were too many awards to list all the winners but from memory L&G seemed to be filling their table with ‘silverware’ - the full list of winners can be seen on the Professional Pensions website.
The biggest winner of the night, however, was Steve Delo – President of the Pension Management Institute and Chief Exec of PAN Governance – who walked away with the Pensions’ Personality of the Year award. I think there must have been a couple of rounds of voting to decide the short list for the night, but the winner was decided in a ‘secret’ ballot of everyone in attendance. Steve gave a lovely speech which I think showed how genuinely touched he was to win.
A charity auction on behalf of Barnado’s, and run by Christopher Biggins, also raised a decent amount too.
Michael MacIntyre was very funny, as was the man hired to ‘shush’ the audience, but the most impressive speaker of the evening was a young girl, who’s name I can’t recall but it might have been Gemma, who addressed the audience (of around 1000), explaining what it was like to be a young carer for her family, and how Barnado’s help and support had affected her life.
I was nervous enough just having to walk on stage, say “and the winner is……” – but from the audience, Gemma didn’t seem to have even an ounce of nerves.
